San Antonio College Journalism-Photography students
continued their tradition of winning top awards for the weekly newspaper
The Ranger and The Fourth Write magazine in state competition with
both two- and four-year institutions of higher education.
On March 28, The Ranger was also selected Best Non-daily College
Newspaper in Texas by the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors
(TAPME) at the group's annual convention in Abilene. The Ranger
was also selected Best Overall Newspaper in Division 2, and The
Fourth Write placed fourth in General Magazine at the Texas Intercollegiate
Press Association convention April 2-3 in Austin.
"The newspaper was the cleanest in regard to Associate Press
style, leads and readability," said the Texas Intercollegiate
Press judges. TAPME Judge Tommy Miller, California State University
at Fresno, said, "Excellent reporting, writing, editing and
packaging. The quality journalism across the board is what set this
newspaper apart from the keen competition."
The Ranger also placed Third in Sweepstakes, and students won 17
individual awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association.
First Place awards went to Raymond Jordan for General Column, Fred
Tabares for Illustration, Rachel Rangel for News Photo, John Lauricella
