The Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas recently continued
the full accreditation of the San Antonio College Associate Degree
Nursing Program with the following commendation: "The faculty
and administration are commended for the 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN®
for graduates at the Kerrville DEI [Distance Education Initiative]."
In response, Department Chairperson Dr. Lula Pelayo praised her
faculty who "work hard to remain in tune to the ever-changing
work environment as well as to the current industry needs."
She added, "We have become adept at responding to those needs
through innovative approaches in nursing education as exemplified
by our participation in the Health Consortia, the Greater San Antonio
Health Care Foundation, and the Alamo Workforce Development Initiatives."
Last year, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recognized
the SAC Nursing Education Department as "exemplary" in
its standards and practices, and more recently the department received
a $343,000 grant from the Greater San Antonio Healthcare Foundation
to hire more faculty to meet the needs of an expanding student enrollment.
