The Scobee Planetarium and the San Antonio Astronomical
Association will co-host "The Best Darn Planet Observing Session
Ever!" on Saturday, March 27 at the San Antonio College Observatory
and adjacent parking lot.
"For a week or so before and after March 27, a relatively rare
opportunity occurs where all five of the 'naked eye planets' (seen
without the aid of a telescope) will be visible above the horizon
during the evening," said Bryan Snow, Planetarium Coordinator.
These planets include Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter,
stretching from west to east. The public is invited to view these
for free through the San Antonio College Observatory telescope or
through telescopes set up in the parking lot.
"As a extra bonus, the mountains and craters of the First Quarter
Moon will also be visible," said Snow, who encouraged families
to bring their children.
The Observatory and surrounding telescopes will be available from
7 - 11 p.m. Parking is free, located one block east of San Pedro
Ave. off W. Park. If it is cloudy or raining, the session will be
cancelled. For more information, call 733-2910.
