The ASL/Interpreter Training
for the Deaf Program at San Antonio College will celebrate its 10th
Anniversary with a performance for all age groups by TOYS Theatre,
a deaf theatre troupe from Russia, at McAllister Auditorium on June
25 and a dinner-dance on June 26 at Oak Hills Country Club.
TOYS Theater is an internationally acclaimed group that was firmed
in 1985 in St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad), Russia. The ensemble
has used mime and gesture stories enhanced by rhythms for both deaf
and hearing audiences throughout the world, including Finland, Norway,
Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United States.
According to spokesman Bram Weiser, the performers are all deaf
and "use the universal language of humor to entertain audiences
and provide glimpses into Russian and deaf cultures."
At the 10th Anniversary Oak Hills Country Club Dinner and Dance
on June 26, a silent auction will be held to raise scholarship funds,
and a DJ will play music. Some of the auction items will include
a Spurs leather jacket, bag, video and tickets; dinners for two
