San Antonio College graduate Mary Esther Cortez has been awarded the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award, given annually by the Business Department faculty to recognize students' attitude, image, individual growth and potential, and academic achievement.

Cortez earned an AA degree from San Antonio College and is now a Business Administration major with a concentration in Human Resources at the University of Texas at San Antonio, with eventual plans to pursue a degree in law. She serves as executive secretary on the Edwards Aquifer Authority.

Wall Street Journal recipients receive an individualized paperweight, a year's subscription to the Wall Street Journal, and his or her name on a department plaque on exhibit. For more information about the award, contact Department Chairperson Vernell Walker at 733-2847.
