More Than $140,000 in Scholarships Available to High School Seniors, Applications due Jan. 29

The San Antonio College Women's Center invites high school seniors to apply for more than $140,000 in scholarships to be awarded at the 2004 Young Women's/ Young Men's Conference on Saturday, Feb. 28, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the McAllister Auditorium.

To be eligible for a scholarship, current high school seniors must plan to enroll full time during the Fall 2004 semester at any college in the Alamo Community College District (San Antonio College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip's College, Northwest Vista College).

Students should submit an application, transcript, and essay based on the conference theme, "Find Your Pathway To The Future" by the deadline on Thursday, Jan. 29. Applications are available from high school counselors, the SAC Women's Center, or on-line at http://www.accd.edu/sac/students/wc/yw-ym.htm.

The Young Women's/Young Men's Conference is held annually with a mission to bring together high school young women and men (11th & 12th grades) for a day of information focusing on self-esteem and leadership development in order to expose them to enhanced career and educational options. The conference also presents positive role models to offer messages on the importance of higher education.

The high school with the most students at the conference will be awarded a trophy and that school's counselor will receive a one-night stay for two at the Marriott River Center or Marriott Riverwalk.

More than 500 students, parents and counselors from forty San Antonio and surrounding area high schools and community agencies attended last year's conference. Sixty-six percent of the seniors who attended the conference were enrolled in an ACCD college by Fall 2003.

For a scholarship application or more information about the conference, contact the SAC Women's Center at (210) 733-2299.
