Pulitzer Prize-winning Author James M. McPherson, Professor of American History at Princeton University

Topic: “When will this cruel war be over? The failure of peace negotiations, 1864-65.”
McPherson will discuss slavery and emancipation in relation to the peace negotiations at the end of the Civil War.
McPherson has written fourteen books and several periodical articles that focus mostly on the American Civil War and Reconstruction, including “Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era,” which won a Pulitzer Prize in 1989, and “For Cause and Comrades,” which won the Lincoln Prize in 1998. He is the Immediate Past President of the American Historical Association.
