Colleagues,
As you may know, voters passed the ACCD Bond by a comfortable margin. I am excited about the positive impact that the expansion of facilities at the four existing colleges and the construction of a new college will have on the citizens of Bexar County.
Much is said about the economic impact of the education provided by the Alamo Community College District, and how this upcoming expansion will be an even greater economic generator. It is also significant to acknowledge that we improve the quality of people’s lives in many other less-tangible ways and, by doing so enhance the quality of our community.
Passage of the bond means more classrooms, more laboratories, more student study space and more parking for San Antonio College. This is an exciting opportunity for us to better serve our students and the community, and the impact will touch us all. Soon I will appoint committees to help with the planning and college oversight.
For their leadership in the effort, I want to thank Dr. Federico Zaragoza, Mr. John Strybos, Mr. Leo Zuniga, the other college presidents and members of the ACCD Board of Trustees, as well as members of the Citizen’s Committee. Additionally, I want to thank all of you here at SAC who worked very hard to evaluate the information, answer student questions, and make the discussion of this issue informed and insightful. I am especially indebted to Dr. Thomas Hoy, Ms. Joanne Wilson, Dr. Charlotte Wolf, Dr. John Hammond, and Ms. Deborah Martin who assisted in many ways to ensure that the college community and the public had accurate information.
Sincerely,
Bob Zeigler
