Collecting School Supplies for Southside ISD | ||||
| (San Antonio, TX, August 1, 2005) The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at San Antonio College is partnering with 102.7 K-Rock KSRX and AM 550 KTSA to collect school supplies for kids in the Southside Independent School District (SISD).
At collections boxes throughout the SAC campus, from August 1-12, the public is invited to drop off donations such as lined paper, spiral notebooks, pens, pencils, glue sticks, crayons, and even new and gently used backpacks. "Community service is a mainstay of Phi Theta Kappa," said advisor Jeff Hunt. "And with our focus on academic excellence, it seems only natural that we collect school supplies to help our neighbors in Southside ISD, one of the poorest school districts in the state of Texas, based on property tax." Also, the week of August 8-12, K-Rock and KTSA will collect school supply donations at locations all around San Antonio. During the collection drive, listeners may register to win concert tickets for System of a Down, playing at the SBC Center on Friday, August 12. "For some parents there simply may not be enough money left for school supplies," said Dr. Mard Herrick, Southside ISD superintendent of schools. For more information about the collection drive, contact Jeff Hunt, PTK chapter advisor and department chair in Theatre and Communications at San Antonio College, 210-733-2716.
