Six San Antonio College engineering students were selected for research internships this summer, based on their academic achievements and promise.

Adrian Alfonso, Miguel Gomez, Emilio Gonzalez, Anthony Torres, and Nelly Zapata were selected by the National Science Foundation's Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program to intern in a summer research program at one of the institutions in the University of Texas System.

Alfonso, Gonzalez and Torres will intern at UTSA, and Zapata and Gomez at the University of Texas at Austin.  The purpose of this program is to increase the quantity and quality of minority students pursuing degrees and careers in science, mathematics, engineering and technology.

In addition, Joseph Carlos Becerril was selected for a NASA Internship and also received a MUST Scholarship (Motivating Undergraduates in Science and Technology) for $3,750 to attend UTSA in the fall.  Becerril served as President of the Mexican-American Engineering Students (MAES) organization at San Antonio College in the 2006-2007 academic year.

For more information, contact MAES advisor Rosa Maria Gonzalez at 733-2984 or LSAMP Coordinator David Chavera at 733-2458.
