This course provides a working knowledge of the terminology and concepts required to use proper computer hardware, software, and systems and competency in using computer systems to accomplish tasks efficiently in RTVB, COMM, and FLMC productions.

Television Field Production
Prerequisite: COMM 1307 and ITSC 1301 or COSC 1301 with a grade of "C" or better
Syllabus

This course is a study of the pre-production, production, and post-production process involved in field television production. Topics include field camera set-up and operation, field audio, television directing, in-camera or basic continuity editing with an emphasis on underlying principles of video technology.

Radio/Television Announcing
Prerequisite: COMM 1307
Syllabus

This course is an introduction to radio and television announcing emphasizing the development of skills including voice quality, articulation, enunciation, and pronunciation. Typical announcing duties for news, sports, commercials, and on-air work are covered.

Syllabus

This course provides instruction in sales methods, audience measurement, demographics, station promotion, and public relations.

RTVB 2351
Programming for Radio and Television
Prerequisite: COMM 1307
Syllabus

This course develops skills in analyzing station formats, scheduling, and programming. It examines the influence of ratings systems, audience response, and marketing conditions on programming for radio, television, cable, and newer media.

RTVB 2440
Portfolio Development
Prerequisite: Successful completion of all courses towards the AAS degree or concurrent enrollment during the student's final semester.
Syllabus

This course emphasizes the preparation and enhancement of a video, audio, and print portfolio meeting professional standards. The course covers presentation and interview techniques and develops job-seeking skills to assist the student in securing a position within the field. This is the capstone course for the RTVB degree.

RTVB 2380
Cooperative Education - Radio and Television Broadcasting
Prerequisite: Completion of 15 semester hours of RTVB, COMM, or FLMC and meet departmental requirements.
Syllabus

An experience external to the college for an advanced student in a specialized field involving a written agreement between the educational institution and a business or industry. Mentored and supervised by a workplace employee, the student achieves objectives that are developed and documented by the college and that are directly related to specific occupational outcomes. This may be a paid or unpaid experience. This course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary.

Non-Linear Video Editing
Prerequisite: RTVB 1421, FLMC 1492, or consent of the instructor
Syllabus

This course is an examination of the principles of non-linear editing. Students review fundamental editing concepts, select clips for editing, and set-up the computer. Students edit segments, create special effects, and mix audio for video. The completed digital master is then laid back to videotape. This course involves extensive hands-on experience. Students will produce long form programs using story line editing including conceptualization and script writing.

Audio/Radio Production III
Prerequisite: COMM 2303 and RTVB 1150 or consent of the instructor.
Syllabus

This course presents advanced concepts in audio/radio recording and editing. Topics include digital editing, sound processing systems, and multitrack down recording techniques.
