FACULTY   SENATE   RECEIVES   ALERT   ON   LEGISLATIVE   ISSUES
    [ October 2005 ]
At the October 2005 TCCTA Faculty Leadership Conference, Senators Ellen Brennan and Jessica Howard received briefings on potential
problems faced by community colleges during the upcoming Texas legislative session. These issues would create significant

challenges for this college and will be debated by legislators prior to additional action. They include the following:
-       1.   Plans that would require greater higher education accountability ( as outlined in Executive Order RP 31 )
-       2.   Core curriculum revisions that would decrease history and government requirements
-       3.   A "proportionality" proposal that would reduce the state's contribution to community college employees' ERS health care benefits.
For additional information, legislative updates, and guidelines on writing to state legislators, please consult the "Legislative Issues"
section of the senate's Important Documents & Resources page.   At its December 7th meeting, the Faculty Senate adopted a position
paper that addresses these issues.   Click Position Paper to access the document.
