After attending Odessa College, Alice
Johnson received her B.A., M.L.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Texas
Woman’s University. Her work experience includes the Science
Library at the University of North Texas, several positions culminating
as Coordinator of Public Services at Texas Woman’s University,
and corporate librarian for I.B.M. Corporation. During this time
she also was a consultant and established libraries for SOHIO Petroleum
and Frito-Lay in Dallas. She was active in the Denton Chamber of
Commerce. In 1984 Governor Mark While named her an Admiral in the
Texas Navy for her work in preserving archival material on the
history of Texas women.
In 1992 Dr. Johnson joined the administration of San Antonio College
as Library Director. During this time, the Library added an online
catalog, numerous computers, and began purchasing computerized
databases. She was promoted to Dean of Learning Resources in January
2000. Her areas of responsibility include the Library and Media
Services, the Instructional Innovation Center, and Testing and
Assessment. She currently chairs the American with Disabilities
Act Committee, and the Fine Arts and Lecture Series Committee and
participates in the Institutional Effectiveness Steering Committee.
Dr. Johnson’s hobbies include collecting cookbooks, gardening,
and reading. She is an active church member and serves on several
committees. |
