Volunteer Position(s): Benefits Counselor; Office Assistance; Ombudsman
Duties:
Volunteer opportunities include information, referral and assistance; benefits counseling; administrative and general office assistance and ombudsman (assisted living and nursing home advocacy). Duties vary per position see below. Required time commitment is a minimum 4 hours, once a week for at least one year.


Benefits Counselor:
Benefits Counselors assist seniors and their caregivers by providing information and assistance about available programs, applications for programs, resolve claims with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, pensions and other benefits. Benefits Counselors assist by giving information on the telephone, in person or at locations in the community. Training is 25 hours for Benefits Counselor I and 30 hours for Benefits Counselor II to receive certifications. Training involves attending group or individual classes and shadowing qualified Benefits Counselors. Training is accomplished at the volunteer's own pace. Ongoing informational training is also provided.

Office Assistance
Volunteers will come into the office and provide essential help to the staff. The assistance includes but not limited to answering telephone calls, filing, completing mail outs, making bulk copies, and assisting with data entry and reports in the computer. Orientation and training is provided.

Ombudsman
Advocate for quality of life and residents directed care for individuals who reside in nursing home and assisted living facilities. Help resolve complaints and protect welfare and rights of residents. Enjoy flexible hours while making a difference in your community. Training requirement is 36 hours of class meetings or individually, tape reviews and facility visits to receive certification. Training is accomplished at the volunteer's own pace and provided in your community. Ongoing additional training is also provided.

Volunteer Position(s): Audio/Visual Specialist
Duties:
Candidate will be responsible for delivery and set up of audio/visual hardware to presentation site. Attending the presentation event to assist the speaker with operating the equipment, and troubleshooting any problems which arise.
Qualifications:
General experience with computer hardware, specifically laptop computers and LCD projectors. Basic knowledge of Power Point; including starting the program, loading a presentation, and advancing through the presentation. Ability to set-up computer hardware, including all the cables and wires a plus.
