Benefits Counselor:
Benefits Counselors assist seniors and their caregivers by providing information and assistance about available programs, applications for programs, resolve claims with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, pensions and other benefits. Benefits Counselors assist by giving information on the telephone, in person or at locations in the community. Training is 25 hours for Benefits Counselor I and 30 hours for Benefits Counselor II to receive certifications. Training involves attending group or individual classes and shadowing qualified Benefits Counselors. Training is accomplished at the volunteer's own pace. Ongoing informational training is also provided.
