Stories: If you, your department or organization is doing something for Hurricane Ike Relief, please tell me your stories. They are being sent to the Office of Emergency Management in Washington DC and they want to know what SAC is doing as we are receiving Federal Learn and Serve Funds. Hurricane Ike Assistance
Volunteering:
If you wish to volunteer at one of the many shelters in town that are operating 24 hours a day:

The American Red Cross, San Antonio Area Chapter is recruiting volunteers to assist with Hurricane Ike response.
If you are interested in volunteering, please register at the Volunteer Operations Center (VOC) at the Harry Freeman Coliseum, located at 3201 E Houston St. Please use the Gate A (West entrance) off of East Houston St by the railroad tracks to enter.
The Volunteer Operation Center will be open and registering new volunteers from 7:00am to 7:00pm each day until further notice.
New volunteers will be asked to complete an information sheet (application), a background check and a disaster training session (approximately 1 hour or less). Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and provide a picture ID to volunteer for the Red Cross. All volunteers will be given a temporary ID badge and obtain additional information regarding a specific assignment.

Donating Items:
San Antonio College will be having a drive to collect the items in most need and these will be donated to the Salvation Army and these will be delivered to the shelters.
We will be collecting for at least 2 weeks, possibly three. Most of the affected are going back to places that have no stores and for right now, they are not allowed to return home.
Items needed:
New Clothing or Gently Used
Undergarments and socks
Toiletries: Shampoo, Conditioner, Feminine Items, Toothbrushes, Tooth paste, Deodorant, but no razors.
Paper Goods: Tissue, Toliet paper, napkins, paper towels.
Diapers and Baby Formula
Blankets
Boxed Fans
Non-Perishable Foods, like canned meats, peanut butter, pasta, packaged snacks and bottled water.

We will be collecting through the next 2.5 weeks, through October 3 if necessary. I will drop off items each week to the Salvation Army. Boxes are needed for SAC transportation of these goods and are needed by the Salvation Army. If you have any extra boxes call us at 785-6498.
If you wish to make a monetary donation. Do not bring it to SAC.
