Are you the next Spielberg?

Are you ready to make your own movie?
SAC’s Office of Student Life and the Department of Media Communications are sponsoring a weekend “boot camp” in “guerilla filmmaking” where you learn how to get your great movie idea from script to the big screen in 8 short hours.

 

Learn some of the secrets of moviemaking including:
➢ Scriptwriting
➢ Pre-production
➢ Casting
➢ Location Selection
➢ Lighting & sound
➢ Cinematography
➢ Shot mapping & Shot listing
➢ Editing
➢ Working on a limited budget, with limited time


Day 1

Workshop will be done on state of the art digital equipment and will include actual filming of a short film on Day 1, as you learn the filmmaking process by being a part of it.

 

Day 2

Day 2 will have your team shooting youe own 8-minute short film from your submitted script, to be edited and to be put on the big screen at the 8 in 8 Film Festival end of the workshop.

 

8 Short Hours!

OSL will provide cameras, lighting and editing equipment to complete this process. Your team just needs to bring their creative ideas, relentless energy and enthusiasm, and commitment to getting it done in 8 short hours!

 

  • Application Requirements:
    • Each group must apply as a team of 4 (Director, Camera, Lighting/Sound, Producer). Only one submission per team.
    • Each group must submit a short video (1-3 minutes) presenting your team, your film experience and interest, and why your team should be selected. This can be submitted in VHS or DVD format.
    • Be creative and show us how much you want to do this!
    • “8 in 8 Boot Camp” application form must be submitted with your video.
    • Deadline for submitting applications to OSL Office is: Monday, October 26, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.
    Applications are limited to the first 100 teams to submit a video.

  • All Team Members:
    • Must be a current SAC Student
    • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours
    • Must have a 2.0 GPA

  • DON’T HAVE A TEAM – BUT YOU STILL WANT TO MAKE A MOVIE?  NO PROBLEM!  EMAIL A 1 MINUTE VIDEO (FROM YOUR CELL or CAMERA)  OR SUBMIT A 1 PAGE ESSAY, LETTING US KNOW WHY YOU SHOULD BE PICKED FOR THE 8 IN  8 WORKSHOP & WHAT POSITION YOU’D LIKE TO WORK ON.  We’ll match people to their interests and make a team for you!  Send it to 8in8filmcamp@gmail.com

WINNING TEAMS: 10 TEAMS OF FOUR WILL BE SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WORKSHOP. WINNING TEAMS WILL BE NOTIFIED .

 

Following their selection, winning teams will then be asked to create a 3-5 page script due Friday, November 6, one week prior to the workshop, on one of the two following Themes: “ My SAC” or “Go Green”

Scripts must contain two of the following:
1. Props: Shoes/Boots or Stuffed Animal
2. Line: “Remember the Alamo.” or “I didn’t see it.”
3. Color: Green, Red, or Black
4. Gesture: High-five or dancing

Script should contain 1 inside and 1 outside shot but no more than 4 different locations. Scripts should be formatted in movie script format, such as described at www.screenwriting.info, or utilizing screen writing software such as Screenwriter, Final Draft or similar program. Teams may bring their own actors or select from SAC actors available at the boot camp.

Film Festival Awards:
Awards will be given for Best Picture, Best Script, Best Cinematography, and Audience Favorite.
