DR. BARBARA STRAINThe new Strain Communication Center (MCFA 205) along with a scholarship fund have been set up in honor of Dr. Barbara Strain who recently passed away in May 2008, to ensure her legacy of lifelong learning and dedication to San Antonio College. The Strain Communication Center will open September 2008 and is a computer/resource center for students taking Speech and Theatre classes to conduct research, develop presentational aids, view speeches/monolgues, and get assistance with class assignments. Dr. Barbara Strain, Professor of Speech Communication. Barbara Strain was a proud native of the great state of Alabama. She was born in Gadsden, Alabama. Education: Barbara Strain received an A.B. from Birmingham Southern College, a M.A. from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin. Barbara Strain taught Speech courses at San Antonio College since 1969 including Fundamentals of Speech, Business and Professional Speech, Voice and Diction, Pronunciation for non-native speakers; at the request of the English as a Second Language Department (ESOL) she designed the communication curriculum for two courses. In addition she used special computer software called Video Voice to assist students master spoken English. She co-wrote and published a Speech communication textbook, Communication Skills by Barbara Strain and Patricia Wysong.
