CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2007-2008 SPEECH TEAM!!
AFA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
Results from the American Forensics Association-National Individual Events
Tournament-April 4-7, 2008 (held at the University of Austin): These
students qualified for the national tournament: Chelsea McClure, Justin
Blacklock, Ojiyoma Pinnock and Matthew Perez. Ojiymoma Pinnock advanced to
the Semi-final round in Program Oral Interpretation. She was among the top
12 of 138 competitors, across the nation from 2 year colleges and mostly 4
year colleges/universities.
PHI RHO PI NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
Results from the Phi Rho Pi National Tournament-April 14-20, 2008 (held in
St. Charles, IL): These students qualified for the national tournament:
Chelsea McClure, Justin Blacklock, Ojiyoma Pinnock, Matthew Perez, and
Loretta De La Torre.
The tournament advances the top 20% of the field in each event. If the
student makes the first elim round they will be considered BRONZE status. If
they advance from the first elim round they will be considered SILVER
status. Based on a percentage a certain number will be GOLD status upon
their rankings in the final round of competition.
Matthew Perez- Prose Interpretation-SILVER
Justin Blacklock- Poetry Interpretation- SILVER
Dramatic Interpretation-BRONZE
Loretta DeLaTorre- Dramatic Interpretation- BRONZE
Ojiyoma Pinnock- Program Oral Interpretation- GOLD (She ranked #1 in the
field of competitors in this field)
Interpreter's Theatre: "REthink Recycling"-SILVER
Cast members: Loretta DeLaTorre, Justin Blacklock and Ojiyoma Pinnock
Script written and directed by: Jolinda Ramsey
Our Interpreter's Theatre: Rethink Recycling competed against 26 other
theatres at the national tournament. We were the top seed going into
outrounds. We won in our first outround. In the final round we hit another
TX team (North Harris College) and they won the final round. Our theatre
went SILVER.

This is the second year a SAC Interpreter's Theatre has taken GOLD at the National Tournament. Featured cast members are Ines Zrinski, Ojiyoma Pinnock and Joseph Holloway. The script was written and directed by 2006-07 coaches, Jolinda Ramsey and Misty Popovich.
