ARTC 1302 Digital Imaging I
Catalog Description:
A studio course introduces the general principles of digital image processing and electronic painting. Emphasis is on using image editing and/or image creation software, scanning, resolution, file formats, output devices, color systems, and image-acquisition.

ARTC 1317 Design Communication I
Catalog Description:
A studio course (3-2-4)* in the study of design development, relating to graphic design terminology, tools and media, and layout and design concepts. Topics include integration of type, images and other design elements into corporate identity programs and packaging. Computer skills in industry standard computer programs will be developed. *3 semester hours credit, 2 hours of lecture and 4 hours of studio work per week.

ARTC 1327 Typography
Catalog Description:
A studio course in the study of letterforms and typographic concepts as elements of graphic communication. Emphasis on developing a current, practical typographic knowledge based on industry standards.

ARTC 1349 Art Direction I
Catalog Description:
A studio course (3-2-4)* in the creation of projects in art direction for advertising graphic campaigns encompassing products, services, or ideas. Topics include all campaign procedures from initial research and creative strategy to final execution of comprehensive projects. *3 semester hours credit; 2 hrs. of lecture & 4 hrs. of studio work per week.

ARTC 1353 Computer Illustration
Catalog Description:
A studio course (3 semester hours credit; 2 hours of lecture and 4 hours of studio work per week.) Mastery of the tools and transformation options of an industry standard drawing program to create complex illustrations. Includes principles of layout and design, and manipulation of text and graphics. Students will receive hands-on training with basic drawing/painting, manipulating and creating vector based graphics and illustrations. There will be an introduction to various methods of reproduction in print and electronic graphics.

ARTC 2311 History of Communication Graphics
Catalog Description:
A studio course (3-2-4)*on the survey on the evolution of graphic arts as it related to the history of art. Topics include formal, stylistic, social, political, economic, and historical aspects. Emphasis on the art movements, schools of thought, individuals, and technology as they interrelate with graphic art. Historical topics are applied to illustration, graphic design, typography, photography, print media graphics, and motion graphics. *3 semester hours credit, 2 hours of lecture and 4 hours of studio work per week.

ARTC 2317 Typographic Design
Catalog Description:
A studio course (3-2-4) focusing on the importance of typography in visual communication will be stressed through the exploration of problems in typographic design including computer generated letterforms as elements of design. Topics include theory and techniques of traditional, contemporary, and experimental typography for advertising and editorial usage. A continuation of ARTC 1327. * 3 semester hours credit, 2 hours of lecture and 4 hours of studio work per week.

ARTC 2347 Design Communication II-Animation Design
Catalog Descripton:
An advanced study of design, development, and art direction. Emphasis on form and content through the selection, creation, and integration of typographic, photographic, illustrative, and design elements. Comprehensive application of topics and concepts covered in all prior classes. Produce advanced individual project(s) in Animation Design. NOTE: *Must be taken once for each separate major track.

ARTC 2347 Design Communication II-Graphic Design
Catalog Description:
A studio course (3-2-4) concentrating on advanced individual projects in any of the graphic arts area of Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, and Art Direction. This course is designed for students to concentrate and expand in a major field of interest. NOTE: Use this course for Advanced Problems in all 3 tracks: Print, Interactive, Sequential). *3 semester hours credit, 2 hours of lecture and 4 hours of studio work per week.

ARTC 2347 Design Communication II-Web Design
Catalog Description:
A studio course concentrating on advanced individual projects in any of the following graphic arts areas: Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, Art Direction, Web Page Design, Multimedia Authoring, 2D-3D Animation and Digital Video. This course is designed for students to concentrate and expand in a major field of interest. An advanced study of design, development, and art direction. Emphasis on form and content through the selection, creation, and integration of typographic, photographic, illustrative, and design elements.

ARTV 1341 3D Animation I
Catalog Description:
Three-dimensional (3-D) modeling and rendering techniques including lighting, staging, camera, and special effects, emphasis on modeling/surfacing to create complex characters and environments.

ARTV 2301 2D Animation I
Catalog Description:
Skill development in the use of software to develop storyboards and two-dimensional animation including creating, importing, and sequencing media elements to create multimedia presentations. Emphasis on conceptualization, creativity and visual aesthetics.

ARTV 2330 2D Animation II
Catalog Description:
Advanced study of the technical aspects of animation. Emphasis on aesthetic design and completion of 2-D animation projects.

ARTV 2351 3D Animation II
Catalog Description:
Advanced skill development in three-dimensional modeling and rendering techniques using lighting, staging, and special effects for digital output. Emphasis on production of three-dimensional (3-D) animation using modeling, rendering and animation software.

GRPH 2309 Digital Prepress
Catalog Description:
A studio course on the theory and techniques for pre-press preparation using industry-standard software for final file output. Topics include the procedures and problems involved in computer file preparation ranging from trapping, color separations, and resolutions to printing basics and service bureaus. (3-2-4)

IMED 1316 Web Page Design I
Catalog Description:
A studio course covering Internet web page design and related graphic design issues including mark-up languages, web sites, Internet access software, and interactive topics. *3 semester hours credit, 2 hours of lecture and 4 hours of studio work per week.

IMED 1341 Interface Design
Catalog Description:
A studio course focuses on the study of how the features and functions of interface design get translated into something humans find usable, useful and desirable. Emphasis is on the role that visual interface designers play in the multi-disciplinary attempt to bridge the gap between functionality and usability and to introduce students to the unique challenges of designing within the realm of a digital interactive medium.

IMED 1345 Interactive Multimedia I
Catalog Description:
Exploration of the use of graphics and sound to create interactive multimedia applications and/or animations using industry standard authoring software.

IMED 1380 Cooperative Education
Catalog Description:
A studio course. 20 hours per week complemented by 1 hour of classroom lecture per week. Career-related activities encountered in the student’s graphic arts area of specialization are offered through a cooperative agreement between the college and the employer, and the student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Directly related to a technical discipline, specific learning objectives guide the student through the paid (or unpaid) work experience. This course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary. May be repeated for three additional credit hours. Student must complete 280 hours to complete course.

Preparation and enhancement of portfolio to meet professional standards, development of presentation skills, and improvement of job-seeking techniques.

IMED 2311 Portfolio Development-Graphic Design
Catalog Description:
A studio course (3-2-4) with emphasis on the preparation and enhancement of a portfolio. Final student portfolios
must meet professional standards of organization and presentation. Topics include studio organization for freelancing, contracts, working under pressure, effective self-and articulation, and the writing of resumés and cover letters.

IMED 2311 Portfolio Development-Web Design
Catalog Description:
A studio course (3-2-4) with emphasis on preparation and enhancement of a portfolio to meet professional
standards, professional organizations, presentation skills, and job-seeking techniques. Topics include studio organization for freelancing, contracts, working under pressure, effective self-criticism, professionalism in attitude, appearance and articulation, and the writing of resumés and cover letters. Students in the 'Interactive" track prepare an interactive presentation that is a compilation of their best work in their area of specialization. *Must be taken once for each track.

IMED 2315 Web Page Design II
Catalog Description:
A studio course focuses on the study of hypertext mark-up language (HTML) and interesting layout techniques for creating and engaging well-designed web pages. Emphasis is on identifying the target audience and producing a web site according to physical and technical limitations, cultural appearance, and legal issues.
