Tuesday, September 8
at 5:30 PM, members of the Arts 1304 Internet Class will meet at the San
Antonio Museum of Art, located at 200 W. Jones Avenue in San
Antonio.
(Please note that Museum Admittance is free with a valid SAC
id.) This trip will provide us with the opportunity to meet
each other face-to-face, and will allow you to begin work on your
Museum
Assignment. Please contact me
at least one week prior to the
scheduled
meeting date if for some reason you are unable to make the trip.
(For those
living out of town, we will discuss an
alternative
art collection you may visit in order to complete this assignment and
the Research Paper.) SAMoA is located just north of downtown San
Antonio
and can be reached off of N. St. Mary's Street or from Broadway.
(For directions, click on Museum Information, then Visitor
Information.)
During the museum visit
you will
have the chance to view the various collections of art assembled at
SAMoA
(Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Asian, European, American, Latin American,
Contemporary, Folk Art, etc.) The collections are extensive, so
plan to stay at
the museum for approximately two or more hours . From those
collections
that reflect the material we will study in the Art History Survey II
course (ranging in date from approximately 1300 to present day),
you will select six works of art to explore in greater depth (see the Museum
Assignment). You should use the occasion of the field
trip
to write a thorough descriptions of each of the six objects you
choose.
Remember, I will be available to help you with your selections during
our
field trip meeting.
