Marleen Hoover


Marleen Hoover is an Associate Professor at San Antonio College where she teaches Art History I and II, and Art Appreciation. She has taught at San Antonio College since 1996, beginning as an adjunct, and began teaching full-time in 1999. Before moving to Texas, Marleen was an adjunct instructor at the University of New Haven, Middlesex Community College (in Middletown, Connecticut) and the University of Bridgeport. She has previously taught Art History I and II, 20th Century Art History, Basic Drawing, and Figure Drawing; she created and taught an honors section of Modern Art History and Women Artists in History for the University of New Haven, and an accelerated adult Art History Survey course for the IDEALS program of Bridgeport.


At San Antonio College she serves on the Women's History Committee, the Black History Committee, the Curriculum Globalization Committee, and the Mexican-American Experience Curriculum Committee.  In the Visual Arts and Technology Department, she previously served as faculty sponsor to the Student Art Guild.

Ms. Hoover holds an MA in Art History from Vermont College (The Goddard Graduate Program) of Norwich University, pursued additional graduate work in Studio Art at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, and continued her graduate studies in the history of art education and architectural theory at Texas Tech and at UTSA.  She completed her BA in Art History at Charter Oak College in Hartford, CT.  Previously she had studied art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and art history at Albertus Magnus College in Connecticut.

In 2006 Ms. Hoover's essay on American aesthetics was included in the book Searching for America: Essays on Art and Architecture, ed. Robert Sheardy, Jr. (Cambridge Scholars Publishing).  She has been a regular participant in the National Conference of the American Culture Association, delivering papers on such topics as the shaping of American aesthetics, art and architecture of mid-19th century America, and the popular art of 19th century American journals.
