The Seguir Adelante Community Center for Adult Re-Entry Education & Training opened in January 2007. Our main purpose is to serve as a resource and support for people in our community who desire to improve their family’s economic security and stability by wanting to further their education. Our many services can assist someone who is coming to college for the first time or for someone after a long absence from school. We will assist in making this transition as easy as possible!

Here are just some of the many FREE services offered in our center:

• Academic Counseling & Guidance
• Complete Enrollment & Registration Process
• Financial Aid Application Assistance
• Accuplacer Preparation
• Free Workshops
• Scholarship Search Database
• Community Resource Lab
• Transportation Assistance (if eligible)
• Community & Campus Resources & Referrals
• IDA Information, Application, and Referral for education, homeownership, and vehicle purchase. (funded by the City of San Antonio)

The following Special Programs are also available to our participants:

• College Entry Assistance: We can serve as an initial contact site for people wishing to return to school but need information, assistance, and encouragement. We offer college information sessions and individual assistance with the admissions process, academic advisement, financial aid, scholarships, and other issues relevant to first-time, re-entry, and transfer students.

• CONNECTIONS Training & Employment Program: This Adminstrative Office Assistant Marketable Skills Certificate offers15 hours of college credit and is set up in a Fast track format. This customized training is ideal for students who need education and skills but don't have the time to complete a traditional program.

• Basic Skills Remediation: The Seguir Adelante basic skills lab offers computer based academic remediation software that focuses on upgrading Reading, Language Arts or Math skills. This program is ideal for someone who needs to increase their Accuplacer score in a subject or for someone who wants a refresher in a subject area after being out of school for a while.

• Life Skills Workshops: These monthly workshops cover topics relevant to daily life as a student, parent, or simply as a member of our community. Topics include: Stress management, time management, study skills, self-esteem building, parenting, and money managment.

• Choices Workshops: Career Counselors assist you with career exploration, scholarship search, and scholarship essay writing. These workshops are offered to current students as well as future students.

• Workforce Preparation Workshops: Sessions facilitated by our Job Placement Specialist will assist you with Resume Building, Interviewing Skills, and Job Search Techniques.

• Basic Computer Classes: This series of classes is offered to people who have little to no prior experience with computers. Sessions include an Introducation to Computers, Using the internet, and Microsoft Word.
