Mi CASA Program

 

The Mi CASA (Career Advancement & Self-sufficiency Assistance) Program is designed to serve the needs of residents located in the Tobin Hill, Alta Vista, Beacon Hill, and Five Points areas. The program assists low-to-moderate income families become self-sufficient by providing FREE career counseling, workforce preparation, home buyer education, health-related workshops, eligibility screening for social service assistance programs, college information, financial literacy, and more. Mi CASA is supported by a grant funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Department (HUD), Office of University Partnerships.

Career & Workforce Preparation

Individual Career Counseling - Individuals will have an opportunity to participate in one-to-one career planning process. This includes access to a series of assessments for self-awareness of interests, values, personality, and transferable skills. Career exploration, decision-making, and action planning toward pursuing career goals will also be provided.

Career Workshops -These workshop are held periodically on career exploration, occupational research, job readiness, and labor market information using online computer system, such as, Discover, Type-Focus, Choices, or other career-related materials.

Employability Skills Development -Workshops and walk-in services are available in the development of an employment portfolio. This services included will help you showcase your skills and experience by using your personal essay. resume, employment application, goal-planning, and transferable skills during an interview. Participants will leave with a portfolio in-hand upon completion of the service.

Computer Training Preparation - This service may be offered on a one-to-one or group setting. This service offers individuals with steps toward computer proficiency and training classes. This includes an introduction to computer terminology, learning how to use the keyboard, learning how to surf the web or gain email access, and learn the basics of MS Office programs.

Homebuyer Education - In conjunction with our community partners, we provide residents with Mortgage Planning, Homebuyer down payment assistance, and provide Pre-qualification opportunities.

Financial Literacy - We also partner with several local banking institutions to assist students with Credit Issues, Opening Bank Account, Money Management, and saving for the future.
