Sounny Slitine, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, was recognized by the 31st annual meeting of the Society of Educators and Scholars, held March 21-22, 2008, at Pepperdine University, Villa Graziadio Executive Center, Malibu, California. Mr. Slitine was recognized as Past Chairman of the Society. He also had the privilege of presenting the Slitine Award (named in his honor) for the best paper submitted on ethical issues. He is shown here with Professor Anna A. Mejia-Flores (Inter-American University of Puerto Rico), managing editor of Scholar and Educator.

Mr. Slitine, shown here with the award certificate, came to the Alamo Community Colleges in 1993. He joined the SPC Math Department faculty in 2002.
On February 29, the SkillsUSA Showcase was held at SPC's Southwest Campus. Secondary students from the entire San Antonio area demonstrated their talents in numerous applied science and technology areas. Along with other instructional departments, the Math Department maintained a booth with informational materials about our programs and course offerings. Denise Braziel, Advisor-in-Residence, and Tony Bower, Professor of Mathematics, were present for the occasion.
