How long is the vocational nursing program?
The VN program is a 3 semester (12 month) program.
How many times a year to do you admit to the VN program?
We admit two times per year; Fall (August) and Spring (January).
What other requirements other than academics are needed to be eligible for admission into the Vocational Nursing Program?
In order to gain acceptance into the St. Philip's College Vocational Nursing Program, a student must be able to:
- Use their sense of vision, hearing, speech and touch
- Perform psychomotor movements that require coordination of gross and fine muscular movements and equilibrium
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Demonstrate stable emotional health and intellectual abilities required to exercise sound judgment
- Demonstrate adequate decision making/problem solving skills
- Demonstrate physical health necessary to perform activities related to patient care; must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand for prolonged periods during the course of a clinical shift/rotation
- Must not have an aversion to blood or other body fluids
- Provide multidimensional aspects of nursing care to patients with various types of acute and chronic health problems
How do I gain admission in to Seguin Extension Campus VN program?
The admission requirements are the same for both the Seguin Extension Campus and the Martin Luther King Main Campus; refer to the following

Where will I attend clinical rotations?
Students will be required to attend clinical rotations in a variety of public and private health care settings throughout San Antonio and
its surrounding areas which may include but not limited to New Braunfels, Seguin, and San Marcos. Students are responsible for their own
transportation to and from the clinical sites.
What entrance exams are acceptable for admission and what are the minimum acceptable scores?

What are the prerequisites to gain admission into the VN program?
Currently there are no prerequisites, however it is highly encouraged to complete
Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II(Biology 2401 and Biology 2402) prior to entering into the program.
Can I transfer credits into the VN program?
We will only accept the equivalent of Level I (first semester
courses) courses into the VN program as transfer credit from another vocational
nursing program. A review of your transcripts from a prior
program along with course catalog descriptions must be submitted for review.
Upon review by the program director, the applicant will be notified if the
request for transfer credit will be granted. Human anatomy and physiology
may also be transferred if equivalent to Biology 2401 and 2402.
What is the cost of the VN program?
In state/in district fees are approximately $1200/semester and
for the year approximately $4,000.00. There is also a one time fee for
taking the licensure exam (NCLEX-PN) of $339.00. The tuition cost does not
include books, uniforms, and clinical supplies.
What are the minimum scores for the entrance exams
required for admission into the VN program?

What times are classes held?
Classes are held Monday through Friday.The day program holds theory classes from
8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and clinical rotations from
6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Evening theory classes are held 4:00 p.m. to 11:00
and clinical rotations are held 3:30 to 11:00 p.m.
