Vocational Nursing Program Admission Criteria
The requirements for admission into the St. Philip's College Vocational
Nursing Program, are in accordance with the
Texas Board of Nursing (BON) and are as follows:
1. Applicant must be 18 years of age or older with a High School diploma or GED
(must show official transcript).
2. Individuals who have completed High
School requirements in a foreign country must submit an Official High School
Transcript translated in English. All foreign credentials submitted
to the College must be the original or a certified English translation. An
official evaluation of foreign credentials and translated transcript must be
provided before transfer credits can be granted. The student is
responsible for arranging for credential evaluation and/or translation.
Please use World Education Services, Inc.(WES) for evaluation of foreign
transcripts. The student must pay all costs of translation and/or
evaluation of credentials. Evaluations completed by evaluation services
are subject to review and approval by the Records and Registration Office.

3. Applicants must have at least a 2.0 GPA or the equivalent of a
cumulative "C" average in all college course work and/or high school
4. Although not required, we strongly encourage the applicant to
complete Biology 2401 and Biology 2402 (Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II) and HITT 1305
(Medical Terminology) prior
to admission.
5. Obtain a minimum score on one of the following
placement tests:
(refer to the link for minimum scores for placement test). All
scores must be within a 3 year currency for acceptance in
the Vocational Nursing Program.

6. Completed physical exam by a licensed physician, physician's
assistant or nurse practitioner. Evidence of required immunizations including: Hepatitis B
Series, Hepatitis A Series, Varicella (chickenpox)
Series or documented evidence of acquiring the disease, Tetanus, MMR (Measles,
Mumps, & Rubella), and PPD (TB screening). Serum titers confirming
immunity are also accepted for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Varicella and MMR.
7. Must show proof of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Infant, Child
and Adult through the American Heart Association or Red Cross Health Care
Provider Certification. Internet CPR or healthcare provider courses are not
accepted.
8. Must show proof of Health Insurance and remain insured for the
duration of the program.
9. Applicants must undergo a criminal background check and drug screen.
Note: * Admission is contingent upon passing the criminal background check and
returning a
negative drug screen.
Please Note the following:
Step One: You must apply and be accepted into St. Philip’s College for admission before
admission to the Vocational Nursing Program.
Step Two: All admission requirements including a completed
application must be met
before consideration will be given for admission into the St. Philip's Vocational Nursing
Program.
Step Three: Once notified of acceptance, the applicant must
respond accepting the seat for admission. If the applicant declines admission into the program
and at a later time decides to reapply, he/she must meet all
admission/application requirements again. The original file is destroyed
upon decline.
Only applications that are complete including meeting all admission criteria
will be considered for admission. For additional information
