Office of Advising & Assessment
The Advising & Assessment departments are responsible for the testing and
advising of all new students regarding Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and
developmental coursework.
Effective September 2003, all first-time-in-college students must take an
official state-mandated test which includes Accuplacer, Asset, Compass, or THEA
(formerly TASP) prior to enrolling in college-level courses. The THEA test is
valid indefinitely, however, the Accuplacer, Asset and Compass test will be
valid for a period of three years unless the student enrolls and completes at
least three hours of college credit with a grade of "C" or higher within that
three year period, whereas the test becomes valid indefinitely.
St. Philip's College offers the Accuplacer, which is a computerized adaptive
test. The Accuplacer test is available:
Mondays through Thursdays 9:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m.
Saturdays 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m.
There is a $15.00 fee for the test, and a valid picture ID is required
to test. For more information on when the Accuplacer is available, please contact
the Advising office at (210) 531-3263.
