Eligibility
Students seeking to participate in dual credit will need to take a state mandated test
for TSI, complete an Apply
Texas Application, submit a Dual
Credit Consent Form and an official partial high school transcript documenting tests
taken, i.e., TAKS, SAT, ACT, etc.
TSI Exemptions
ACT/SAT
High school students are exempt from TSI testing if they meet either of the
following scoring criteria:
- SAT: Total score of 1070, with a
minimum score of 500 on both Verbal (Critical Reading) and Math sections
- ACT: English score of 19, Math score of 19, composite
score of 23
Scores on either SAT or ACT are considered expired if they are more than five (5)
years old.
TAKS
Students who are not exempt based on ACT or SAT may also be TSI exempt
through high TAKS scores:
- TAKS (10th grade or Exit Level): English Language Arts (ELA) score
of 2200, Math score of 2200, and a writing sample score of 3
Note:
10th grade TAKS Test scores will only be accepted if the student has
not yet taken the Exit Level TAKS Test.
Exit Level TAKS scores will be valid for three (3) years for TSI exemption.
10th grade TAKS scores are only used as a temporary TSI waiver and
will not be used for exemption status once the student graduates from high
school.
TSI Testing
Accupalcer/Asset
Those students who are not eligible for a TSI exemption will need to take
either the Accuplacer or Asset test. St. Philip's College administers the
Accuplacer test on a walk in basis. For more information on Accuplacer testing
please visit
Accuplacer Information.
High school students who take a test for TSI may enroll only in dual credit
courses related to the section(s) of the test which they pass according to
college standards. Students who have failed all parts of a TSI test
but have met placement requirements for their field of study may participate
in Dual Credit if they have passed all parts of the exit-level TAKS test.
