Instructional Unit Review Committee
Welcome to the IURC Resource
page. We hope that the resources offered here will assist you in developing
your review document.
Instructional unit (IU) review in an
educational institution is an organized process whereby an IU examines its
individual effectiveness by careful evaluation of stated purposes, educational
goals, assessment methods and outcomes. It is imperative that this process
receive input from a broad-based representation of the persons who interact with
the IU. This representation may include not only instructional faculty within
the IU, but also faculty from other supporting and supported disciplines,
enrolled students, graduates, industry benefactors, advisory committee members,
other community colleges having similar IUs, licensing/certifying agencies
and/or representatives of transfer (four-year) institutions. Through such
review, an IU should be able to identify its unique role and scope relative to
the college's mission, establish educational goals and outcome measures
(documenting both qualitative and quantitative outcomes), and utilize assessment
findings to effectively plan educational goals and desired future outcomes. The
Instructional Unit Review Committee oversees this review process. The Committee
includes one faculty representative from each instructional department, plus six
instructional administrators (as ex officio members), who can also each appoint
one at-large faculty member.
