Janie N. Gonzales honored by Career & Technology Association of Texas
SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 12, 2009) --- A St. Philip’s college professor has been recognized for outstanding service in the field of career and technology education by the Career & Technology Association of Texas.
The honor bestowed on Gonzales was for her work on projects to connect the college, high school teachers and high school students with cutting-edge education initiatives within the association’s District 7 territory that includes San Antonio and surrounding cities.
“Receiving this recognition is something I will cherish forever,” said Gonzales. “Part of my job as department chair has been to work closely with career and technology teachers in aligning business courses between the high schools and the college,” Gonzales said. “The work that has been done in numerous alignment meetings and professional training will provide more dual credit opportunities for high school students,” said Gonzales. “It is my expectation that these efforts will result in increased college enrollment and a better prepared workforce,” Gonzales said.
St. Philip’s College is the Dual Credit degree program enrollment leader among the Alamo Colleges. Gonzales is a planner in the process of certifying increasing numbers of high school business teachers to teach the Dual Credit courses. This effort helps the increasing numbers of high school students to earn their associate degree from St. Philip’s College while also earning their high school diplomas.
The Career & Technology Association of Texas promotes instructional partnerships with educators, business and industry to prepare students for postsecondary education and employment. The association is unified with the national Association for Career and Technical Education that is the largest national education association focused on education to prepare youth and adults for careers.
