ST. PHILIP’S COLLEGE HOLDS 2009 PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS BANQUET

Five students awarded scholarships based on 4.0 G.P.A. and commitments to community service

SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 29, 2009) --- The 2009 St. Philip’s College Presidential Scholarship Awards Reception and Banquet was held Sept. 23 at the new Center for Learning Resources building.

Five students were awarded scholarships based on a 4.0 GPA and an eight-month commitment to participate in a community service project. Recipients and guests were invited to the program that was hosted by St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston (third from left in photo) and her cabinet.

The 2009 St. Philip’s College Presidential Scholarship recipients receive $1,500 in the Fall semester and $1,500 in the Spring semester for a total of $3,000.

Pictured from left are the recipients:

Johnell Gould, Psychology major, President’s Honor Roll member, in a 2 plus 2 program with The University of Texas at San Antonio to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She will provide community service to both Project HOPE and the San Antonio Food Bank.

Doris L. James, Early Childhood Studies major, is a member of her church ministry and a childcare provider. She will provide community service to GRASP-Greater Randolph Area Services program.

John Chavez, Automotive Technology major, a St. Philip’s College Student of the Month for May, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Chapter at St. Philip’s College and listed on the President’s Honor Roll. He will provide community service to both San Antonio Metropolitan Ministry, Inc., and Habitat for Humanity.

Carlos Escajeda, Mechanical Engineer major, praise and worship leader for his church, plans to transfer to The University of Texas at Austin for his bachelor and master degrees. He will provide community service to the youth in his neighborhood.

Eduardo Cuellar, Network Maintenance major, a member of Skills USA, the President’s Honor Roll and a Student Engagement Grant recipient. He will provide community service to Junior Achievement of South Texas.
