ST. PHILIP’S COLLEGE PRESIDENT ACCEPTS DOCTORAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Tribute for Dr. Adena Williams Loston comes from West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 15, 2008) --- St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston (center) accepted a Doctoral Achievement Award during a ceremony sponsored by the West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Dr. Loston was joined by program master of ceremonies Dr. Robert L. Jimenez, Chairman of Nix Specialty Healthcare (left) and Linda Burton, Chairman of the West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors (right). Award recipients have attained the highest degree of scholarly distinction and contributed professionally in the San Antonio community and included Alamo Community College District Chancellor Dr. Bruce Leslie (second image at center). Dr. Leslie was joined by Mary Cruz, President of the West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce (left) and Dr. Jimenez (right). The Chamber presented awards to Loston, Leslie and 18 additional recipients in the fields of education, biomedicine, bioscience, medicine and law. The presentation ceremony for this award was held Sept. 30 at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio.

About St. Philip’s: St. Philip’s College was founded in 1898 by Bishop James Steptoe Johnston of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church of the West Texas Diocese. Today, St. Philip’s is a multi-campus institution of the Alamo Community Colleges and serves a semester enrollment of nearly 10,000 credit and more than 5,000 continuing education students. St. Philip’s is a Historically Black College and Hispanic Serving Institution and is the only college in the nation that carries this dual designation.
