ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE PRESIDENT HONORED BY LOCAL FRATERNITY

San Antonio Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. recognizes Dr. Adena Williams Loston with Citizen of the Year Award for leadership

SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 12, 2008) --- The San Antonio Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Inc. Fraternity honored St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston by presenting her with the Fraternity’s elite Purple and Gold Citizen of the Year Award.

Psi Alpha Chapter Basileus-President James Blair (at left in photo) and Houston businessman, former NASA space shuttle pilot astronaut and retired Marine Maj. Gen. Charles F. Bolden, Jr. (right) were among the notable Fraternity members who congratulated Dr. Loston (center) following the presentation that was part of the 2008 Psi Alpha Chapter Awards program Nov. 21 in San Antonio.

The Citizen of the Year Award is the local Chapter’s ultimate tribute for persons who consistently make a difference for the community the Chapter serves, local Fraternity member Greg Thompson said.

Nominations are examined annually although there is no guarantee of acceptance, and under that rigorous process the Chapter opted to select no 2006 or 2007 Citizen of the Year Award recipients, Thompson explained.

“When we select our Citizen of the Year it is significant because our award is only for someone we have observed closely for more than a year,” Thompson said. “From our perspective Dr. Loston makes a positive day-to-day difference in the quality of education in the San Antonio metropolitan area,” said Thompson.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. is a male fraternity that encourages high standards, community service, character and leadership development. With 750 Chapters including San Antonio’s Psi Alpha Chapter, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. was the first African-American national fraternal organization to be founded at a historically black college.
