St. Philip's College
Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
Professional Development
The QEP Formal Professional Development program has two components: the first
is a Train-the-Trainer model and the second is College-wide Critical Thinking
Professional Development. The Train-the-Trainer component will develop small
groups of faculty who will become content experts in critical thinking and will
be in-house consultants for the other component
The purpose of the Train-the-Trainer component is to prepare groups of faculty to train others in researched and effective teaching, learning, and assessment strategies in critical thinking. Faculty who participate in this component will form a corps of trainers who will collaborate with their departments and the IIC to deliver College-wide Critical Thinking Professional Development.
The College-wide Critical Thinking Professional Development component will be
a collaboration among instructional departments, their content experts, and the
IIC to provide the necessary professional development to all faculty prior to
formal QEP implementation in their courses, as per the QEP Implementation
Timeline.
The IIC will support departments and their faculty by
serving as the central clearinghouse of syllabi, handouts, assessments, and
other supporting material, including online modules and record-keeping for the
College-wide Critical Thinking Professional Development component. In addition,
a highly-skilled Curriculum Developer and trainer will support training in the
departments and will provide consultation support to faculty trainers.
