Need additional money for college? Can't afford your school expenses? Did you answer yes to both these questions? If so, become a college work-study student.

College work-study is a federal based program that helps college students finance their educational expenses including books, supplies, transportation, etc. This program is based on financial need and is available to both full-time and part-time students. Jobs within the work-study program are beneficial because they allow flexible work hours giving the student more time to study. Students are encouraged to work within an area related to their course of study. These jobs can give you the opportunity to network with other students, teachers and administrators within your job field. You may even have the opportunity to gain career experience. You get paid to learn!

To be considered for college work-study, the student must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A student must also have a complete financial aid file in the St. Philip's College financial aid office, be in good academic standing and be enrolled for at least six (6) hours during the semester employed. Students must be a Texas resident to qualify for Texas College Work-Study.

Qualifications/Procedures:

1. If a student qualifies for College Work-study as determined by the FAFSA, the student may be employed by a department that may be determined through the Financial Aid Office.
2. A contract will be given to the student requiring the student and Department Supervisor signatures along with an account number.
3. Once the student is hired by the department, the student must complete and submit to the Student Financial Aid Office, the following:

• W-4 form
• I-9 form Copy of student’s social security card
• Copy of student’s Driver’s License or,
• A Texas Identification Card or,
• An unexpired Military Identification Card

Pay Rates:

St. Philip's College offers 3 different pay rates for the College Work-study program depending on job location.

• On-Campus positions - $6.00/hr.
• Off-Campus positions - $6.50/hr.
• America Reads positions - $7.00/hr.
