Phoenix Program

The Phoenix Program is specifically designed to give students the academic and technical skills required for the 21st Century workforce. While in the program, students get to create and build real-world hands-on projects, explore career opportunities and participate in job shadowing, during their senior year. Students can learn to be technicians or entrepreneurs in a real-world environment that stimulates work site problem-solving and creative thinking. Students must have an interest in exploring careers in: Hospitality, Commercial Transportation, Allied Construction trades, and Metal trades. Commercial Transportation involves exploration of aviation mechanics, diesel mechanics, and heavy equipment. Allied Construction offers students job-specific skills for residential and commercial carpentry, electrical, plumbing, air-conditioning and refrigeration technology. Metal Trades provides students with hands-on exploratory in welding, collision technology, machining technology, and sheet metal. Hospitality Program consists of workplace experiences in the areas of culinary arts and hotel/restaurant management. 

Dual Credit

Students, participating in the Phoenix Program, can earn college credit ( dual credit) while still in high school and use that credit in a 2 or 4 year college or university program. Students get to attend all classes on St. Philip's College-Southwest Campus that operates on the same San Antonio Independent School District academic calendar and day. Students must meet college entry and program testing requirements to participate in college level programs.

Eligibility Requirements

Students must be a junior by the fall of the school year and willing to attend school on a daily basis at the Southwest Campus of St. Philip's College. Students must be motivated to work hard to expand knowledge and to participate in exciting leadership activities. The Phoenix Program is available to SAISD students at no cost. Books, tools, and bus tickets are also provided at no charge. The Phoenix Program also connects students with Science, Math, English, Government, and Economics to wrap up their high school diploma while pursuing their career at St. Philip's College-Southwest Campus. Academies: Students may also participate in the Alamo Area Aerospace Academy, Information Technology Academy or the Manufacturing Technology Academy. The Phoenix Program is a joint education partnership between San Antonio Independent School District and St. Philip's College.
