Middle College Program (MC)

Purpose

The Middle College Program focuses on high school students that are interested in pursuing a coherent sequence of career and technology courses that will lead to a high-wage career following graduation. Careers will involve additional post-secondary training that will lead to a license, an associate’s degree, a marketable certificate, an apprenticeship, or a bachelor’s degree. Middle College opportunities allow students to choose from a wide range of occupations and educational options.

Employers across the country are looking for employees who not only possess academic skills but also the basic workplace skills like arriving on time, problem solving, decision making, team player, critical thinking, working a full day, treating colleagues and customers with respect, and having a strong work ethic. With the support of  local businesses and other community partners, the program expands learning beyond the walls of the college. Students have opportunities to visit worksites to gain a realistic perspective of how various skills are used in the work environment and how the organizational structure operates.

The Middle College Program also:

  • makes education relevant to students' futures and answers the question "Why do I have to learn this?"
  • provides information so students can select studies that relate to their individual areas of interest.
  • offers stimulating learning experiences inside and outside the classroom.
  • encourages every student to graduate from high school and continue to pursue life long learning opportunities.
  • assists ALL students to achieve their highest potential while preparing them for personal and economic success.
