SSFAC Funding Request Checklist

This page is designed to help you understand what types of activities are funded by your student services fees. Below you will find a checklist that the committee uses to guide the decision making process. Take a moment to review the checklist and determine whether or not your funding request meets the Texas Education Code.

Is the request for activities which are separate and apart from the regularly scheduled academic functions of the institution? If you answer no, the packet is automatically rejected. It would violate the Texas Education Code.

Is the request for services covered under another section of the Texas Education Code for which a fee is charged? If you answer yes, the packet is automatically rejected. It would violate the Texas Education Code.

Which of the following applies to the funding request (Mark all that apply)?

  • directly involve/ benefit students
  • recreational activities
  • health or hospital services
  • medical services
  • intramural athletics
  • intercollegiate athletics
  • artists series
  • lecture series
  • cultural entertainment series
  • debating and oratorical activities
  • student publications
  • student government
  • student transportation services
  • student travel (transportation, lodging & meals)
  • student conference registration

All of the above are expressly mentioned in the Texas Education Code or have been approved by our governing board as being eligible for funding through the student services fee. If the above are not applicable to the funding request, we will discuss during our committee meeting.

Below you will find sample questions that the committee asks to help make funding decisions.

  • Are SPC student the primary beneficiary of the use of funds?
  • What role did the students play in organizing the event/activity being funded?
  • Does the requesting group contribute to the college in any way, i.e. - host workshops, conferences, volunteer at college functions, actively participate in the campus life?
  • What impact will the fund have on the students attending the event and/or the remaining students?

Hopefully this information will help you understand the funding criteria a little better and serve as a guide to you and your club members.
