Glossary

Alt Tag
An alt tag is reserved for alternative text. This text describes the image and is what the screen readers will read to explain what the user can't see.
Cursor
A cursor is a visual indicator that will display your position on a computer screen.
In your HTML editor, the cursor will display your position on the Web document
Gallery Image
A gallery image is an image used in SPC image galleries. These images are linked from smaller scale images called thumbnails.
Headline Image
A headline image is the image at the top of all SPC Web templates. These images are essential to the official SPC design scheme and give us an opportunity to project the SPC image through appropriate photos.
A hyperlink, or simply link, can be any element on a Web document that directs the user to a different document in the Web site or to a document or resource external to the Web site.
List Item
List items are the parts that make up a list. List items are often bulleted and can be simple text, links or even images.
Ordered List
A list that has a definite sequence and is usually "ordered" numerically.
Path
A path describes the route through a file system- meaning its folders or directories -to a specific file.
For instance, in the path "img/sample/SPClogo.gif", we take the route through a folder named "img", then through the folder named "sample" to find the image SPClogo.gif.
HTML Tag
An HTML tag is the string of code that corresponds to different elements on your template, such as images, links, and paragraphs.
For instance, <p> is an HTML tag.
Style Sheet
Sometimes referred to as CSS, style sheets are made of instructions that can be attached to a Web document or written into its code. These instructions tell Web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox how to display or "style" that document.
Text Box
Boxes embedded within an computer application, document, or file that allows text input from the user .
Toolbar
A toolbar is a row of "tools", usually in the form of buttons, featured in a software application. Buttons on the toolbar perform some type of function essential to the needs of the user of the software application.
The toolbar is commonly found at the top of the screen beneath the menubar. An example of part of a toolbar in Microsoft Word is above.
Unordered List
A list that has no particular order or sequence. Unordered lists have "list items" that are usually preceded by bullets.
Web Browser
A Web browser is a software application that allows you to view pages, documents and resources on the World Wide Web. Examples of popular Web browsers are Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera.
Web Document
A Web document is the term adopted by the SPC Web Community to refer to Web pages.
